History
The festival was started in 1977 by a group led by Stephen Hamilton, a Troy native, with the goal of raising money for community organizations and causes. The first festival took place along the banks of the Miami River, featuring strawberries in various forms like shortcake, sundaes, and beverages. Over the years, the festival has expanded significantly, becoming a major event that attracts visitors from across the region. The festival is known for cherished events like the strawberry pie eating contest and the Strawberry Queen pageant, as well as the popular strawberry donuts.
Today, the festival continues to be a highlight of the summer season in Troy, offering a variety of activities, including live entertainment, a car cruise, a 5K run, and an incredible selection of food, all highlighted by fresh strawberries.
